Research Process
We decided it was best to ideate as many different concepts that we could to solve our “how might we” problem statement. We came up with ideas outside of the mobile app realm so we wouldn’t limit ourselves. We narrowed in on three concepts that we wanted to create storyboards for. Our group also decided it was best to start a competitive analysis right away so we can look at similar ideas.
To understand our target population’s needs, we designed a survey with 13 questions digging into participants’ travel preferences. The survey gathered information such as age, gender, frequency of trips per year, and the planning stages of travel.
33
Survey Respondents
70% of respondents plan part of the trip ahead of time
Planning ahead of time helps avoid missed opportunities and allows them to relax more during the trip
10
Interview
Some interviewees feel lost during the initial stages of trip planning
Interviewees mentioned the challenge of travel budgeting–it is harder to stay under budget than it is to spend above budget

Key findings emphasize the demand for asynchronous collaboration in itinerary creation. Users prefer a unified platform to add events, lodging, costs, maps, and create day-by-day plans. Current options overwhelm users, lacking comprehensive functionality.
Our response is a desktop and mobile app for building and sharing interactive itineraries. Our designs feature complete, customizable trips, providing users with a visual reference. We envision users sharing their itineraries within the app for a collaborative travel experience
The low-fidelity mockups above sketch out how we would like the home page of our desktop to look. The home page would have a search bar where users can input their desired location to vacation to. The search results would then populate itineraries based on their search result. If the user were not to input anything, there would already be itineraries populated on the homepage that users can filter out based on what is trending, out-of-the-way locations, most liked itineraries, etc.
